A strap structure that stays put
On a racerback, the two straps meet between the shoulder blades in a V and converge at a single point at the back of the neck. That structure keeps the straps from sliding off the shoulders and holds them in place through turns and every stroke. The wider straps also give extra support for a fuller bust.
Every back style behaves differently
Racerback is the original training cut — wide straps and a small back opening for strong support. Pro back (super pro back) uses thicker straps and a broader back panel built to cut drag, which suits long training sessions or competition where stability matters most. Flyback uses thin straps and a wider opening for the most shoulder rotation, which fits sprinting or stroke work in butterfly and backstroke.
When racerback is the right call
For daily training where support and stability come first, racerback is the default choice. Reach for flyback when you need more shoulder range, and pro back when you want drag reduction alongside solid support.
What to look out for
Backs with an opening so wide it gives up support · thin straps paired with a fuller bust and no real support · anything without a stated chlorine-resistant fabric.

FAQ
Does racerback suit every body type?
It works well for most, thanks to solid support. With a fuller bust, wider straps or a cup-sized suit may fit better.
Is flyback actually faster?
It allows more shoulder rotation, but how much that translates to speed depends on your own stroke style.
Is pro back okay for beginners?
Yes — the support and stability make it comfortable even for someone just starting out.
